Mid-Valley is a private, not-for-profit organization, which provides employment, alternatives to employment, residential support, and transportation services to adults with developmental and other disabilities. Our mission is to assist persons with disabilities to develop to their highest potential and achieve fulfilling lives. We were founded in 1966 by Margaret Reavis Larsen and a group of family members of persons with disabilities. Mid-Valley is governed by a 17-member Board of Directors comprised of family members and business/community leaders. We are deeply rooted in our community and have received a tremendous amount of support from the communities we serve. Our philosophy of service is based on our belief in the value of community-based services which promote independence, integration, and self-respect. We strive to do everything in a way that would be consistent with how we would want our own family members to be treated if our programs served them. We incorporate the principles of person-centered planning and self-directed services into all of our operations. We believe we offer one of the most comprehensive and diverse array of options available in Oregon. We serve about 180 persons each year with a staff of about 110.

We believe Mid-Valley stands out for a number of reasons. Here are just a few:

  • 76% of our residential services are apartment programs
  • 57% of our employment is community-based, and our goal is to exceed 67%
  • Our employment programs for persons with developmental disabilities have traditionally had earnings almost double the state average for similar organizations
  • Virtually 0% unemployment for participants in employment programs
  • Individual job placements average 48% higher than the state average
  • National Safety Council 1st place award in 2000 for safety and improving the quality of life for persons with disabilities
  • 2002: Serendipity Ice Cream – Small Business of the Year, McMinnville Chamber of Commerce
  • 2001 Rehabilitation Provider of the Year – Oregon Disability Commission
  • 2000 Medium Business of the Year – McMinnville Chamber of Commerce
  • Management team tenure averages almost 10 years
  • Staff benefits including health/dental insurance, short term disability insurance, retirement, personal leave and holidays
  • Largest source of revenue is sales of our products and services
